Follow-up Comment #10:
Now GRUB2 writes embedding zone using Reed-Solomon, so anything beyond first
six sectors (the size of loader and RS decoder along with some helper
functions) + some functions later in the code (but all of them before sector
9) can be overwritten without making GRUB unbootable.
