Follow-up Comment #3, bug #28870 (project grub):

Actually reversing my previous conclusion it looks more like you're trying to
boot from sdb. You think that it's not bootable but in fact it is (well, sort
of). To test this hypothesis do:
dd if=/dev/sdb count=1|xxd
and look if it contains GRUB-related strings.
Go to your BIOS configuration screen and select the right disk to boot from.
