Try looking if BIOS setup has an option to increase the time it gives
for disks to come up.
--disk-module=ata / --disk-module=ahci (later only in experimental
branch) [depending on the mode of your SATA controller] might help.
In whole it sounds more like BIOS than GRUB issue.
