Yes, the build completes successfully with the patch (and with CFLAGS=-O2).
Regarding your previous comment, this was with a recent compiler on Debian
GNU/Linux.
$ gcc --version
gcc (Debian 4.6.2-11) 4.6.2
Copyright (C) 2011 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions. There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
I forgot to mention it.
