Follow-up Comment #7, bug #35667 (project grub):
Seems the issue is the inability of Grub2 to access the files.
Read the output of root@PartedMagic:~# fdisk -l
All the following have no issue accessing the full 250 GB drive -
XP
Ubuntu
Linux Terminal
Acronis True Image
Acronis Disk Director
Rescatux
boot-repair-disk
Gparted
Clonezilla
NONE throw an error: unknown filesystem. Grub2 does.
