Details:
1. On Dell R510 R810 UEFI firmware, grub cannot load kernels.
The Dell servers have been loaded with the latest BIOS and firmwares as of
3/31/2012.
2. GRUB compiled from bzr trunk with
./configure --with-platform=efi --disable-werror
3. GRUB EFI application created with
grub-mkstandalone -O x86_64-efi -o /media/USBTHUMB/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI
4. Enter server EFI Boot Manager and select USB media
5. Obtain grub shell 2.00~beta
insmod part_gpt
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
insmod fat
set root (hd0,2)
linux /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 ro
error: cannot allocate real mode pages
(2.6.32 kernel from CentOS 6.2, same error with Fedora 16 kernel;
same error using grub.efi from Fedora 17 Alpha grub2-efi)
8. This same UEFI firmware boots kernels using grub-legacy-UEFI from Centos6.2
install DVD. Chainloading grub->grub-legacy->linux
works
9. I cannot get any Dell 11G server R510, R810, M910 to boot linux with grub
in UEFI mode.
