Summary: Grub 2.04 loopback command hangs in UEFI systems Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: hedayat Submitted on: Sat 17 Oct 2020 01:16:49 PM UTC Category: Booting Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Software Error Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: Release: other Discussion Lock: Any Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: With Grub 2.04 on UEFI systems, running the following command in grub hangs: loopback loop /isodir/distro_iso_file.iso As already being noted in Debian/Ubuntu bug reports [1][2], unloading tpm module fixes the problem. They guess that grub is trying to verify the whole ISO. I'm also seeing this problem in Fedora, and the 'rmmod tpm' workaround works for me too.
