Summary: Vary slow rendering speen with HiDPI screen Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: sky96111 Submitted on: Sun 19 Sep 2021 02:28:27 PM UTC Category: User Interface Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Hardware-specific Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: Release: 2.02~rc1 Discussion Lock: Any Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: reproduce: 1. Link a high resolution screen 2. Install GRUB and config GRUB_GFXMODE=3840x2160 to fit screen resolution 3. remake grub.cfg what it should be: GUI rendering and system selection should be immediately respond what actually be: In my two devices, GRUB renders very slow and lags. After OEM logo disappear, it almost take 4 seconds to finish rendering first GUI scene. And after finishing rendering, every key pressed (Arr up, arr down, enter) lagged for 1 second to respond, I even cannot select correct system. If I config GRUB_GFXMODE to 1080p, the problem will disappear, but the clarity of the windows and linux startup interface will decrease. It seems other person with certain hardware are facing the same problem. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1227735/grub-is-extremely-slow-1-second-per-key-input device1 info: Arch Linux GRUB 2.06-2 3840x2160 screen NVIDIA GTX1070 GPU AMD Ryzen 1700 CPU device2 info: Fedora 34 Or Arch Linux GRUB 2.02 Or 2.06-2 2736x1824 screen Mesa Intel Iris(R) Plus Graphics(ICL GT2) GPU Intel i7-1065G7 CPU _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?61190> _______________________________________________ Message sent via Savannah https://savannah.gnu.org/
