Using Debian 2.14, from init git intermediate version up to latest 2.14-2, I
get an vga 20 years ago display splash screen.
With same machine setup and grub 2.12 display was at least 1920x1080 without
anything forced via GRUB_GFXMODE.
My mother board is fairly recent 2023 and BIOS is from 2023 also (and again it
works with 2.12)
Worse is that trying to use GRUB_GFXMODE I bricked my system via probably
seeting a resolution not supported my EFI framebuffer.
I wonder if debian patch
https://sources.debian.org/src/grub2/2.14-2/debian/patches/efi-Drop-support-for-UGA-Draw-and-Console-Control-protoco.patch
Could have caused this.
See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1119955.
