Firstly, apologies for the time it has taken me to get back on this issue. Secondly, I would like to withdraw my problem report. We now have a version that is working correctly. Our problem was related to running the GSL, doing some signal processing, on an embedded Power PC processor. We were using a cross compiler based on gcc 2.95.4, we upgraded to a later version of the DENX ELDK based on gcc 3.3.3. The problem no longer seems to exist. I can't say categorically that the upgrade to the compiler is the reason that the problem went away, because other things have changed as well. Using a native compilation based on version 4.0.1 of gcc I also couldn't reproduce the problem. My apologies that I ever raised this as an issue.
