I used /usr/bin/gcc -> llvm-gcc-4.2, which is different from clang. There is also this one http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-guile/2011-11/msg00026.html It asks for this output: $ grep scm_t_int8 libguile/scmconfig.h typedef int8_t scm_t_int8; It is the same with gcc-4.7.0. Hans
