The “gzip” package provides “gunzip”, a simple wrapper script that calls “gzip”. However, it calls “gzip” unqualified, so the “gzip” executable must be on the PATH for gunzip to work.
The fix is to replace “gzip” on the line
exec gzip -d "$@"
in “gunzip.in” with the full path to the “gzip” binary.
This should be done in the next core-updates cycle.
