we have indeed (if I remember correctly this is required for nedit and
possibly some other motif programs).

Running 'echo $XUSERFILESEARCHPATH | tr : \\\n' yields:
        /usr/local/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/%N%C
        /usr/local/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/%N
        /etc/X11/app-defaults/%N%C
        /etc/X11/app-defaults/%N
        /usr/X11R6/share/X11/app-defaults/%N%C
        /usr/X11R6/share/X11/app-defaults/%N

Well, I can run GNU gv 3.7.1 without problems having no ~/.gv at all.

I just tried to unset XUSERFILESEARCHPATH and then I can do that too.
