Thanks for the answer. If Hurd wanted to add an interface for this, I'd strongly suggest kqueue/kevent. It's on a wide range of platforms already so most programs/libraries that are interested in this sort of thing already have a backend for it. It's also the most flexible interface I've yet seen. I'm not entirely certain why Linux didn't adopt it. Cheers
