Now, i want to make sure if inet utils works on my system (intel PC) running on fedora. i closed (killed) the xinetd and all other services like telnetd, ftpd, talkd and so on that come with the usual Linux distribution. i closed (killed) xinetd also. I made sure they are not running through ps. Now i compiled inet utils for my system. i ran ./inetd and tried connecting to my system using telnet client. # ./inetd/inetd -d i got the following messages in my shell. /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : telnet proto=tcp, wait=0, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/telnetd registered /usr/sbin/telnetd on 4 /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : ftp proto=tcp, wait=0, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/ftpd bind failed on ftp/tcp: Address already in use /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : talk proto=udp, wait=1, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/talkd registered /usr/sbin/talkd on 5 /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : login proto=tcp, wait=0, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/rlogind registered /usr/sbin/rlogind on 7 /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : exec proto=tcp, wait=0, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/rexecd registered /usr/sbin/rexecd on 8 /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : tftp proto=udp, wait=0, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/tftpd registered /usr/sbin/tftpd on 9 /usr/local/etc/inetd.conf:ADD : shell proto=tcp, wait=0, user=root builtin=0 server=/usr/sbin/rshd registered /usr/sbin/rshd on 10 someone wants telnet accept, ctrl 3 + Closing from 10 32584 execl /usr/sbin/telnetd 32584 reaped, status 0x100 >From Another Shell i ran #telnet XX.YY.18.12 Trying XX.YY.18.12...
