Thanks - I've got it built now, but the -i option doesn't work at all.
# ./ping -i 0.5 192.168.0.1
./ping: invalid interval: 0
even -i >1 gives the same
# ./ping -i 2 192.168.0.1
./ping: invalid interval: 0
