   Not to be obvious, but my suggestion is, use an alias.  That's what
   aliases are for.

I never liked aliases, I prefer making programs have good behaviour
instead, that helps everyone.

       BSD type behaviour should be default, since that seems what
       most people prefer here.

   Exactly my point.  You were/are proposing to introduce a major new
   environment variable (already undesirable without very good reason)
   in a sense which is backwards to its existing sibling
   (POSIXLY_CORRECT).

Then I must have miscommunicated badly, my intention was the exact
opposite.  The variable name as such (BSD_ME_HARDER) was just a
suggestion, it should probobly be called BSDLY_INCORRECTLY or
GNULY_CORRECTLY or something equally silly.
