Thanks a lot for your detailed explanations. In fact, both problems should be fixed in gnulib (the first one in its m4/readutmp.m4 file, and the second one in m4/pty.m4), so I'd suggest to bring these to the attention of gnulib maintainers. The email is <bug-gnu...@gnu.org>. Regards, Sergey
