An alternative to the symlink is to set the environment variable
TEXPSHEADERS to "/usr/local/share/lilypond/1.6.6/tex/:" (or wherever
you have installed Lilypond). Note the semicolon at the end.
Of course, we have to find a better placement of the file in
future releases.

In lilypond 1.6.6, using dvips(k) 5.90a (from TeX Live 7), I find that

directory name `dvips' instead of `ps':

I don't understand why this used to work and/or why it's broken now.
However, since I just want to typeset my music, I made a symlink
dvips->ps in $(datadir)/lilypond/1.6.6, and now dvips can find the
headers.

BWT, the same problem exists for xdvi.

My older teTeX's default texmf.cnf contained $TEXMF/tex// in the
standard TEXPSHEADERS variable. This has changed. Sebastian, can you
tell us why?
