Thanks for all the suggestions. There are a couple of good ones there,
and a couple of puzzles (I've been thinking about the different stanza
thing too.)  But they need some thought before they can be
implemented. I'll get back to you

You are quite right; the durations with \addlyrics are arbitrary. We
could use that information for special purposes.

I removed it when I realized that automaticMelismata is
superfluous. You can use melismaBusyProperties. Set it to '() for no
melismata.

I added a note in the Bar check section. I also found  a smallish
error in our latest test piece, after adding |  :-)
