I tried some different property settings in a crowded score, but none of them worked as I expected, so I leave the question to others who know better. As a workaround, you could introduce manual line breaks using \break in lines that look too crowded.

If you search the mailing list archives, you will find lots of examples of how to set the "padding" property to increase the distance between the dynamics and the note head /stave, whichever is closest.

That's why I specifically mentioned horizontal spacing. The vertical spacing (i.e., from the dynamic to the note/staff) is fine. Is there any way to deal with horizontal spacing?
