I have now tested to download version 2.10-1.1 in Windows and can confirm your problems, namely that the program reports 2.10.0 and has not fixed the bug. However, one solution for you could be to try the latest development version, 2.11.x, while waiting for the next proper 2.10.x release.

If you please include a small (but complete, so that it can be
run through LilyPond) example .ly file that illustrates your
collision problems, I'm sure that someone on the mailing list
can provide help.

Regarding the versions, it may happen that you first have to uninstall
the previous version before you install the new one, at least that's
what I do when I upgrade in Windows. However, there are very small
differences between 2.10.1 and 2.10.0, and nothing that's related to
such collisions, as far
as I know.

Thanks for the reply. Sample code is here:
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=53&can=1&q=fixed_2_10_1

I did uninstall the previous version before I installed "2.10.1". I also
verified that after I had uninstalled it, I could not run lilypond from the
command line; so I have no old versions hiding in my path.

When I run "/Applications/LilyPond.app/Contents/MacOS/LilyPond" (the GUI), the
About box says 2.10.1; but when I run
"/Applications/LilyPond.app/Contents/Resources/bin/lilypond --version", it says,
"GNU LilyPond 2.10.0" etc.

And that bug that is labeled fixed_2_10_1 is still there. I'm at a loss.

Regards,
