I think the names in comment#1 are better, because there's not much in
the sense
of "On"/"Off" in textLength alone. \useTextLengthOn and
\useTextLengthOff are more
clear, but too long.
"Length" could also be "width", maybe:
\useTextWidth
\ignoreTextWidth
