Mark, I've added your comment and your example. However, do keep in mind that the status for closed issues is "verified", not "fixed", and this is not "verified" yet. Another comment: please use extra diplomacy (and patience) whenever you're trying to help improving LilyPond. While it is fine to say that "we" should consider taking Ross' examples into account, it might easily sound rude to say "*i* don't consider this as fixed". If your opinion is sensible enough (which I believe it is), it will prevail in the end, but you also have to keep an open mind. Joe has already (very quickly) addressed one of the problems; moreover, he has explained us (which I didn't know) that the octave alignment thing was actually a deliberate rule; so this is strictly speaking not a bug, since LilyPond does what it's told to. Determining whether this rule is good or not is a different debate, that will take more time to solve.
