2009/4/11 Trevor Daniels <t.dani...@treda.co.uk>:
The file which contains this translation string (po/it.po) is encoded (correctly) in UTF-8, in which è is written (correctly) as è. Is it possible your console output is not correctly rendering utf-8-encoded
characters?

IIRC that's a known issue with Windows console codepages. Using
LilyPond on a French Windows is a nightmare wrt accented chars :-)

Actually this may be a LilyPond issue. I notice on my system (Vista) that these po files are rendered correctly when viewed with gitk or a utf-8-aware
editor like NotePad, but not by, for example, the ConTEXT editor,
which is not utf-8 capable. This suggests it is the responsibility of the application to correctly render utf-8 characters. If this is correct, it
is a LilyPond bug.

Regards,
Valentin
