I think we should take it one step at a time -- first make a python script that suits our needs, and then ask the texinfo people if they want to package that along with
their tarballs.

They may well say "no"; after all, makeinfo is in C (ick!), and texi2tml is in perl. If they integrate texi2html like they were IIRC planning, then they'd have a relatively small project that used C, perl, and python. I obviously can't speak for them, but I'd be tempted to reject such contributions just for the amount of language
dependencies it added.

(granted, maybe this script should be done in perl, for later integration with
texinfo... but all the *lilypond* scripts are in python!)
