Comment #1 on issue 865 by Carl.D.Sorensen: Enhancement: ancient tablatures

There was some discussion about this on the -devel website some time ago with Dana Emery, but I'm not sure
anything useful came of it.

Well, it contained a lot of useful information, even
if the discussion was a little divergent! And you
mapped out the way to go: develop the output form
first, using standard LP tab syntax, extended if
necessary, then develop an input mechanism suitable
for users who are not familiar with staff, based on
tab-like notation. This could be either a separate
program, as you suggested, or a new input mode. We
already have chordmode, drummode, figuremode, lyricmode,
and markup mode, all with a syntax different from
notemode, so adding tabmode would not be impossible.
