Thanks for your work, Carl. I think the key word you used is "possible".
It looks to me like the main reason your version works and I could not get
it to work is that you've put a whole voice of spacer rests in the main
staff - presumably this allows the spacing code to work better. I can't
see that as an acceptable solution, apart from as a temporary workaround.
If I take your code (including the change to placing the lyrics
with "alignAboveContext = MainStaff") apart from that, I get the ossia
staff colliding badly with the staff above - see attachment. This also
includes all the spacing code, which has no effect. If we compare this
with the _default_ for 2.12 (no spacing overrides needed) then this must be
a regression. Trusting that Joe's fix works and solves this.
