woah, let's not get distracted. There's no "medium term" here.
Problem: overlapping boxes.
Solution: that one-line (not counting comments) diff.
Go ahead and push that directly.
Now, as a completely separate issue, it may be good to update texinfo.tex.
And that might be delayed for other technical problems, which you're
working on. But that's really nothing to do with this specific issue, so
please push and then mark this one fixed.
