More or less by passing regtests. It is more like an internal change. Some consequences are that you can write -15 as a fingering. Another one, I think, is that after
value=-3
value has a value of -3 instead of being a fingering event.

The motivation for the change was a simplification of the grammar and the lexer, so the main test is that the Lilypond grammar in the notation manual appendices has become shorter.
