A somewhat changed version of this patch (I got segfaults when the
unchanged patch was actually exercised which does not happen in pristine
LilyPond) is going in as part of issue 2070 after testing.
Since this patch alone adds mostly dormant code, Patchy can't really prove
its correctness with the current regtests. So testing can usefully
commence only once issue 2070 gets an update. It is possible that I'll
upload the changed patch here for reviewing it separately (Rietveld is
lousy for multi-commit changes), but it does not make sense to put Patchy
on this issue or start a countdown here.
I am putting this to "needs_work" since it fits slightly better
than "abandoned", but actually neither is really correct.
