With the given patch, output of the original example looks as attached. I
can confirm that without the patch, the output on my system (Ubuntu
Oneiric) is as shown by Werner. The regtests show no differences since
they compare only images with different metrics. The old code had no
qualms about setting the linecap style to what it needed and leaving it
there, so the new code does the same. That would be the only conceivable
cause for different behavior.
I am committing this without further tests as
c8be1e28e0dab3c7707242336d76350c2f2f19eb to staging. Since the regtest
does not look at the backend differences, that should give useful testing
exposure, and the fix is very straightforward.
