The program links together several sections of music, some of which end with cadenzas and some of which begin with cadenzas.

I think humans would write this sorta thing. A composer, for example, that is working with material and does not know how to order it may have.

foo = { \cadenzaOn a b \cadenzaOff }
bar = { \cadenzaOn c d \cadenzaOff }
etc. etc.

And then, when mixing and matching, may put foo and bar back to back. Granted, LilyPond is not a composition tool but rather a musical publishing tool. But it'd still be nice for this behavior to be possible.
