ok, I was referring to "classical" guitar where often /muted/ or /dampened/ notes are written with the the cross note head - the technique to play it is palm muting which obviously is notated differently in LP. another type where cross head notes are used is the /tambora/ where you hit the strings near or on the bridge. so I assume we were referring to different things - sorry if I trod on somebody's foot.
