I see. I thought about the difference between canceling sharps and flats. I overlooked that there are two different relative positions of natural signs when canceling flats > But why \once? Because the cancellation of sharps looks fine (to my eye) and does need the extra padding. (Or is that another misunderstanding on my side?)
