I guess this will not allow me to use scripting in
Scheme. What about the lacking readline support: Is that an issue of
performance?
It is an issue of convenience when using interactive programs (such as
mail).
The reason compiling against readline failed was most likely the same
reason guile failed. I will try to recomipile it later, trying to
make sure the right version of these two libraries are found.
