Thanks for the timely and thoughtful response(s)! "--disable-sendmail" option, which means that Mailutils no longer > understands the "sendmail:" URL scheme. And this is the default MTA > scheme used by mail and also the scheme that the failed test attempted > to use.
Ah, that does indeed explain everything I've seen during this. I was *so* baffled why 'mail' was behaving that way, and felt sure that it _should_ 'just work'. And of course I thought that I had screwed up somehow, which I guess I kind of did by using --disable-sendmail. I am running Debian Squeeze, and using Exim4 -- so I disabled 'sendmail'. Doh! (P.S. I see that Exim4 sets up a symlink to itself to provide a '/usr/sbin/sendmail' command on Squeeze) I really appreciate your taking the time to explain this: it makes perfect sense now. I also very much appreciate how well you understand and conform to the standards -- very, very nice. I'm sure it must be a real challenge at times. Thank you also for all the time you've spent developing this wonderful software! Sincerely, Chris Hall
