I tried to use make 3.79 to build gtk+-1.2.7 and got the following error
message, retry with older make 3.78.1 works fine:
$ (cd gtk; make check)
Makefile:472: *** Insufficient number of arguments (0) to function `strip'.
Stop.
$ make -v
GNU Make version 3.79, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
Built for sparc-sun-solaris2.6
