Details:
$$(eval) with SECONDEXPANSION enabled causes make to crash with a
segmentation fault.
The following, very simple, makefile reproduces the crash:
$ cat Makefile
.SECONDEXPANSION:
all : $$(eval $$(info test))
$ make
test
Segmentation fault
