Yup, -j8 -0.5 is kinda nonsense, I just used it here because it easily
reproduces screen's build failure :)
But okay, from an end user's perspective it _looks_ like the behavior is
different wrt -l, but per your description it isn't, so I guess make cannot do
anything about it...
