While I can understand the talk about Unicode and ISO-8859-15, I cannot use that editor as it does not support those characters that I use in Europe, especially Eastern European characters. I like to have Emacs replacement, simpler editor with Emacs keybindings that uses those characters. Is there a way to use other character set such as ISO-8859-2 ? My needs are: ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-2 ISO-8859-5 To name it powerful, it should provide various character sets. My favorite Emacs replacement editor is Zile, that also does not allow me to insert various character sets. The flavor of nvi editor that I have here allows me to insert those characters. As long as it is one character set oriented, editor has little use for millions of users. Jean
