Unfortunately I cannot give much more information about this issue. tmux simply won't start at all with >=ncurses-6.6-20260131 and the only "error message" one gets is the one I showed in my previous mail. ncurses was built the same way previous working versions were built. I found a bug report in the tmux repo but that one was closed without a real fix because the reporter didn't respond in time: https://github.com/tmux/tmux/issues/4844 Ultimately I just want to raise awareness that there's an issue with recent ncurses patch sets.
