Since Linux 6.19.10, the linux terminal has gained the alternative
screen capability, thanks to Nicolas Pitre in Cc.
This support was originally added to v6.18-rc1 of the Linux kernel:

However it only copied the regular screen buffer and ignored the Unicode
screen buffer. That was corrected by Nicolas Pitre in v7.0-rc5:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=5eb608319bb56464674a71b4a66ea65c6c435d64
And the bug fix has been backported to v6.18.20 and v6.19.10.
