Disk labels that support extended partition have that field
in their disk_type descriptor:
features: PED_DISK_TYPE_EXTENDED
Atari will have that field too.
I believe Sven is taking care of removing the selection
from parted.c when the label doesn't support extended, but
maybe he will enjoy if you do it ? :)
