Thank you for the bug report. 1.6.22 is a very old version of Parted.
Is it possible for you to try out Parted 1.8.8 [1] and see if you
encountered the same problem? In any case we need to know what you
were trying to do when this occurred.
I've seen that assertion trip in that release before - iirc, it is fixed
in later versions. Please let us know if the problem still occurs with a
later parted.
