This has been fixed in parted v2.4

The problem is that parted has failed to guess the CHS layout of the
disk. You can work around this problem (assuming you can erase the data
on the disk) by removing the partitioning and re-partitioning it with
parted. 

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/diskname bs=1M count=1
