I would like to make the next major patch release before looking into merging the two packages, so it may still take a while. Technically, merging the repositories should be reasonably easy now that both packages use the same infrastructure (git, autoconf, automake, gnulib). We will also need to figure out what to do with the mailing lists and bug tracking. Thanks, Andreas
