When I look at the master branch there, I only see 3 commits after the
"Readline 8.0 patch 1" commit.  But, when I look on the readline-8.1-rc3
branch, I see many more things.  However, I wasn't sure if the -rc3
branch had all of the commits that went into 8.1.

It would be nice if readline used git more normally.  Failing that, a
tag marking the commit that was used for the actual 8.1 release would be
good.  The current approach means more manual work incorporating
readline releases into gdb.
