I don't personally use `dircolors'; it doesn't appear on my system.

Are you saying that this portion of the original report

   $ tail -1 dircolors_nodot
    readline-colored-completion-prefix 0;36

    $ dircolors $_
    dircolors: dircolors_nodot:63: unrecognized keyword
readline-colored-completion-prefix

needed the `*' before the prefix text?

If so, then it's pretty clearly user error, and I can revert the
change.
