Hi. I was having trouble with echo not properly updating the mtime. Here is a printout that pretty much shows what I mean: ********************************** [jhf@frodo NetControl]$ /sbin/hwclock;date;stat block.conf; echo "kafe" > block.conf; stat block.conf; touch block.conf; stat block.conf; echo "kafe" > block.conf; stat block.conf; Tue Oct 24 17:04:07 2000 -0,629838 seconds tir okt 24 17:04:06 CEST 2000 File: "block.conf" Size: 5 Allocated Blocks: 8 Filetype: Regular File Mode: (0660/-rw-rw----) Uid: ( 502/ jhf) Gid: ( 505/ jhf) Device: 0,5 Inode: 291196 Links: 1 Access: Tue Oct 24 17:03:44 2000 Modify: Tue Oct 24 16:58:53 2000 Change: Tue Oct 24 16:58:53 2000 File: "block.conf" Size: 5 Allocated Blocks: 8 Filetype: Regular File Mode: (0660/-rw-rw----) Uid: ( 502/ jhf) Gid: ( 505/ jhf) Device: 0,5 Inode: 291196 Links: 1 Access: Tue Oct 24 17:03:44 2000 Modify: Tue Oct 24 16:59:15 2000 Change: Tue Oct 24 16:59:15 2000 File: "block.conf" Size: 5 Allocated Blocks: 8 Filetype: Regular File Mode: (0660/-rw-rw----) Uid: ( 502/ jhf) Gid: ( 505/ jhf) Device: 0,5 Inode: 291196 Links: 1 Access: Tue Oct 24 17:04:07 2000 Modify: Tue Oct 24 17:04:07 2000 Change: Tue Oct 24 16:59:15 2000 File: "block.conf" Size: 5 Allocated Blocks: 8 Filetype: Regular File Mode: (0660/-rw-rw----) Uid: ( 502/ jhf) Gid: ( 505/ jhf) Device: 0,5 Inode: 291196 Links: 1 Access: Tue Oct 24 17:04:07 2000 Modify: Tue Oct 24 16:59:15 2000 Change: Tue Oct 24 16:59:15 2000 [jhf@frodo NetControl]$ ********************************** Seemingly the mtime is going backwards when echo operates on the file. -- Sincerely Jrgen Hermanrud Fjeld [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Bug-sh-utils mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-sh-utils
